Creating Student Centered Rules in the Classroom
To promote community building and strong relationships, at the beginning of the year students will brainstorm and discuss some of the challenges that may be faced in the classroom as far as appropriate use of materials, class conduct, seating and being respectful to their peers and their teacher. Students will be able to collaboratively vote on classroom rules through an online forum. After discussing rules in the classroom, students will be involved in creating a classroom contract that they will sign outlining the choices they made as well as other agreed upon suggestions from the teacher.
After the rules of the classroom have been agreed upon, the list of rules will be posted on the online classroom website for students and parents to access.

Classroom Procedures
Classroom procedures are important to build a build a sense of community and to ensure that materials are properly cared for and managed without creating conflict or confusion.
1. Students will be greeted at the door with a handshake or a high five.
2. Students will sit in their assigned seats or find a seat based on their classroom rules decision.
3. Before project introductions or continuations begin, students will be given an opportunity to raise their hands and share something good about their day. Students may alternatively be put into pairs to discuss.
4. Students will gather their supplies one table at a time that will rotate from day to day.
5. Students will collect their supplies in a single file line.
6. When students have a question they will raise their hand. Students will not leave their seats to ask a question.
7. Cleanup procedures will follow in the same fashion as gathering supplies, table by table in a single file line

Student Behavior
- Prevention of student behavior begins with building relationships with students. Community building activities and seat assignment can aid in this as well as creating engaging content that will get students involved and interested in lessons.
- Intervention includes strategies such as redirecting, non-verbal cues, proximity, repeated practice and reminder of rules and procedures.
- Response to student behavior includes isolating the student for a one on one discussion, calls home to parents, and in extreme cases contacting support staff as needed or as required by the school.
